Webstandards.TO mailing list; interviewing Veen; Google’s advanced news search
Emma Jane Hogbin has launched Webstandards.TO’s site and mailing list — all those interested in finding out about meetings should head over.
One of the great advantages of working with Digital Web is the opportunity to interview people I’ve longed admired, and a perfect example of this was my recent one with Jeffrey Veen. Also, read my interview with Jeff Faulkner from earlier this month for some great design and client-relationship tips.
Google now offers an advanced news search, which allows you to, among other things, search by keyowrd, news source, location, and date. Though not quite LexisNexis, it is getting there.
While trying to prevent a big ad from overlapping some text wrapped in a pre element, I found CSS 2.1’s proposed additions to the white-space property: “pre-line” and “pre-wrap.”
The latter is based on Netscape’s wrap attribute for pre and (via Index DOT Css) is available as a proprietary CSS property in Mozilla and Opera (-moz-pre-wrap and -o-pre-wrap, respectively). IE goes its own way using word-wrap: break-word. Handy property, even if it is not yet a standard.
