Advertising lite; Canadian media growth

John Dowdell points to an interesting online-ad campaign that successful plays to people’s annoyance with things like Shoshkeles™.

Mozilla users generally won’t see those ads, nor will they need the following tool made for the Shoshkeles-targetted Internet Explorer will: IE Booster. Although I haven’t tried it, the add-on offers three programs to deconstruct and analyze the way a site is built. (Via Cory Schubert.)

The Canadian media sector is growing faster than any other international media market, but most of that growth is in satellite TV, digital cable, videogames, and the Internet. Recorded music (no surprise) saw a decline, as did the journalistic media (especially newspapers, and information on sports and business).

Meanwhile the government’s own committees can’t agree on what to do about media concentration, as proven by the latest report. The Parliament's heritage committee says limit it, its industry committee says end restrictions on foreign ownership (neither of which seem to be available online).
