Mozilla 0.9 released
Another reason for downloading, and developing to, the newest version Mozilla, the Gecko-based browser released today....
StatMarket is reporting if AOL were indeed to drop Microsoft's Internet Explorer and switch to the Gecko-based Netscape 6, Netscape's market share would jump from about 14 percent to almost 20 percent.
This is good news in that the number of standard-compliant browsers being used would dramatically increase, and the death of the bloated Netscape 4.x browser would be hastened.
The current Mozilla (version 0.9) is the "beta release" — meaning it is the recommended jumping-off point for other developers to use. This version is much faster and far more stable than the released-to-soon Netscape 6 which shares a code-base equivalent to the just alpha Mozilla 0.6.
